Greene County All-Stars qualify for World Series

Slate finishes third in caution-filled event

For the first time this summer, Rafe Slate had to deal with a caution-filled race.

Slate, a U.S. Legends Pro series driver who drives the No. 8 Vizitech USA car for Solid Rock Performance Racing, competed in the sixth Thursday Thunder race of the summer. The 10-race summer series is held at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

After weeks of practice, the Lake Oconee Blue Sox youth softball program saw its first live action this past week.

The Blue Sox competed in a tournament last Saturday in LaGrange that pitted them against four other teams. Rain forced the cancellation of what was supposed to be their first action the Saturday before.

Morgan rec department hosts soccer skills camp

Bill Wood Park in Madison played host to another summer sports camp last week.

The Morgan County Parks and Recreation Department hosted its annual youth soccer camp last Monday through Thursday. It was directed by Morgan County High School boys varsity soccer coach Aaron Paul and several members of the Bulldogs squad.

Morgan County’s softball program is hard at work this summer and that continued last Wednesday with two games at home.

The Lady Dogs hosted Heritage High School and Loganville High School. Morgan dropped the opener against Heritage, 6-5, in heartbreaking fashion. The Lady Dogs defeated Loganville, 4-3, to end the day.

Julie Brooker knew something had to give.

The Lake Oconee Academy softball coach was riding home on the bus with her team this past fall after another tough loss. The Lady Titans went just 4-20 last season after posting a 3-20 record the year before. They were outscored 287-132 in 2017.
