Georgia Writers Museum hosts Writing Workshops

Author Valerie Connors will teach Writing Workshop on July 14.

Back by popular demand, the Georgia Writers Museum is hosting a set of Writing Workshops. The first class will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018, from 10 a.m. to noon. The teaching author is Valerie Joan Connors. Ms. Connors is the author of four novels in different genres. She was born in upper Michigan but spent her formative years in Oregon. As an adult, she bounced around the west coast until her job as a software consultant brought her to Atlanta in 1996, the same day as the Olympic torch.

Greene students receive scholarships

Ricquaria Griggs  and Zach Tolleson both received full scholarships to the Youth Conference “Ultimate Life Summit” in Atlanta July 3-8. Scholarships were awarded by ATLAS and 7 Mindsets SEL Company.

Blood drive June 14 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital

St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital will host a community blood drive for the American Red Cross on Thursday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the hospital, located at 5401 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro.

 

All eligible donors are urged to donate at the Red Cross bloodmobile, which will be set up at the hospital. Donated blood and blood products are essential to saving lives after traumatic accidents and in many other situations. According to the American Red Cross, a pint of donated blood can save up to three lives.

Local students get Archways Scholarships

McDonald’s is committed to helping employees further their education and achieve their dreams in a BIG way.  The owners of the McDonald’s in Greene county awarded $15,000 in tuition assistance scholarships to employees graduating from high school last week at the Greene County High School Honors Night. The Archways to Opportunity scholarship is a yearly $2,500 in tuition assistance to team members who have worked for McDonald’s for at least 90 days and 15 hours/week.

Steffen Thomas museum wraps up 'Hanging Beauties' exhibit

Steffen Thomas Museum of Art wrapped up their most recent exhibit, “Hanging Beauties,” last weekend- the show was a collaborative effort between STMA and the Lake Oconee Quilt Guild.

“The show was defiantly a boost for us, you brought so many people into the museum to see your quilts that had not been to the museum before, they loved the museum and they of course, loved your quilts,” said STMA Director Patricia DuBose when addressing the ladies of the LOQG at their recent meeting.
